Anne-Marie Tan, PhD
Every child deserves the opportunity to reach their highest potential.
Intro
My name is Anne-Marie Tan and I am honored to welcome you to my website!
My Philosophy
Motivate students to learn and strengthen foundational literacy skills
Build confidence in students when learning goals are reached
Use an extensive range of effective evidence-based strategies
Background
My first degree was a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology. After graduation, I was accepted into a management training program at a multinational bank to work in New York and London. I learned a lot about effective management approaches but missed connecting and working with children
The Journey
After a few years, I returned to graduate school to attain my doctoral degree in Educational Psychology with a focus in reading research. As a passionate educator, I understand learning is a lifelong pursuit and one must have as many tools as possible to help students be the best they can be.
Education History
Teaching Experience
Expertise
While pursuing my masters and doctorate degrees, I was involved in research that focused on better understanding how children learn, think and develop in reading and writing. After acquiring my PhD, I became a reading specialist. I have been employed at a wide variety of institutions including international schools, the Dyslexia Association of Singapore and the National Institute of Education in Singapore.
Today
I have worked with many children to help them overcome their reading, writing, and comprehension challenges. I love being a part of their learning journey and watching students evolve from avoidant readers and writers to avid readers and writers!
